Week 5-6: The Final Stretch

The model needed some changes. I have decided to go with an idea that was presented to me by Bryan to use an actual phone for the head. The phone that I have available to me is an old IPhone 8 Plus. I needed to modify the model just a bet to compensate the phone. 

Model

    

The main modification was getting rid of the the model phone from the model and then I had to scale the model. The width of the phone is 78mm so I decided on more than that just went for 79mm instead.

There were more modifications other than compensating the phone.

The printing material is translucent which means light will bleed through and because of this property

I filled the mouth hole and eye hole with material so I do not need to add a diffuser for the light.


Printing Setup

With a lot of help from Bryan he helped me set up the print for it.

The model was far too large so there need to be some compromises the main issue was the height so a lot of the bottom was sliced off. Furthermore, I just now realize that there is probably going to be some stability issue I can probably remedy this with something heavy on the inside of the statue.

The print will be hollow because there will lights on the inside.

Everything but the eyes and mouth will be painted with an opaque paint colored black to insure that light is absorbed by it. More than one layer should insure that there will not be any light in areas that I do not want light to come through. 

Now all I have to do is to get this printed.

Week 7: THE FINISH LINE is right around the corner

  WEEK 7 It is a week of working in the real world. Process Before anything I had to sand down the surface. I did not take a picture of the first layer of paint we did which was black to try to absorb the light a bit more, then we did a final layer of white which I wanted because I wanted to play with the light bouncing off of it from the projectors and the phone itself. The phone is a bit loose on the sides, I swear I measured it properly but I am using a bulky case. Anyway the light seems to shine really well in the dark. I need to cut or find a way to get the wire to run out of the sculpture without lifting it up, I will probably trim it from the back. A phone case will be hot glue gunned, so that I can remove and charge the phone when needed. Anyway I am pretty close to finished. I just need to refine it a bit more.

The Journey

Entire Journey: The Final Week This project started as a simple very surface level fan art about monster hunter. But I brain stormed a little bit more and made it more personal. I came to Canada at such a young age that I practically grew up here, and what came with that was the lack of Filipino Lore that I missed. This was time to catch up on that by creating keycaps that are about Filipino Mythology that does not discriminate meaning as long as the myth sounds interesting I will look in it even if it is from the South of the Philippines where I did not grow up.  Research It all started with research where I got to learn more about the myths that span the Philippines and these were the ones that I found were the most interesting and most relevant. I read the up on the myths and searched up images of them and classic symbolisms of them and created designs for each one. WEEK 8: The End

   WEEK 8 It is now the end... There was a descension that I had to make to either allow there to be a gap to access the side buttons or make it more cohesive, I decided on the latter. I got some clay and covered the gaps. In addition I decided to add a support beam to make it more practical and my thought process around this was that it is meant to be seen in the dark and this will not be visible.
