Week 1: The Proposal

 


Overstimulation


I want to create a tormented soul. 

To further elaborate the internet is a gigantic data base that has an unfathomable amount of information
that is freely consumed on a daily basis. The amount of information and awareness of the world is a
blessing and a curse. This digital environment is filled with imagery that can traumatize, and ultimately
change a person. With the amount of large personalities, and influencers it is not hard to be tricked, and 
manipulated. I want to lean into this nihilism in this object.

To make this object one of a kind it will have my face as the tormented soul. The sculpture will be shoulder up stylized version of me. To further elaborate on the object the eye sockets and mouth will be hollowed out and will emit light. There will be white LEDs and a thin white mesh will cover them. On the forehead there will be a phone attached like a parasitic alien life form. I plan on putting this object in an installation where there is a video playing behind it.

How this object is Bespoke is that, not only will it have my face which makes it one of a kind. But it is specifically made to be displayed along with a video installation.

To get this object that is fabricated in my mind into the real world the first part of the process is stylizing myself. Then I will move into Blender over Rhino in this circumstance is the best choice as Blender will be an amazing tool for character sculpting. Then this will be 3D printed in white and placed on a plinth with the video I made from a different class. 

The model itself I think will have my face but I am not quite sure about the hair and how that will interact with 3D printing.

Week 7: THE FINISH LINE is right around the corner

  WEEK 7 It is a week of working in the real world. Process Before anything I had to sand down the surface. I did not take a picture of the first layer of paint we did which was black to try to absorb the light a bit more, then we did a final layer of white which I wanted because I wanted to play with the light bouncing off of it from the projectors and the phone itself. The phone is a bit loose on the sides, I swear I measured it properly but I am using a bulky case. Anyway the light seems to shine really well in the dark. I need to cut or find a way to get the wire to run out of the sculpture without lifting it up, I will probably trim it from the back. A phone case will be hot glue gunned, so that I can remove and charge the phone when needed. Anyway I am pretty close to finished. I just need to refine it a bit more.

The Journey

Entire Journey: The Final Week This project started as a simple very surface level fan art about monster hunter. But I brain stormed a little bit more and made it more personal. I came to Canada at such a young age that I practically grew up here, and what came with that was the lack of Filipino Lore that I missed. This was time to catch up on that by creating keycaps that are about Filipino Mythology that does not discriminate meaning as long as the myth sounds interesting I will look in it even if it is from the South of the Philippines where I did not grow up.  Research It all started with research where I got to learn more about the myths that span the Philippines and these were the ones that I found were the most interesting and most relevant. I read the up on the myths and searched up images of them and classic symbolisms of them and created designs for each one. WEEK 8: The End

   WEEK 8 It is now the end... There was a descension that I had to make to either allow there to be a gap to access the side buttons or make it more cohesive, I decided on the latter. I got some clay and covered the gaps. In addition I decided to add a support beam to make it more practical and my thought process around this was that it is meant to be seen in the dark and this will not be visible. Anyway here is the finished product
